Mob sets live elephant on fire

by Andy Lynch

On Tuesday evening, Citizens of Orissa's Keonjhar district in India finally got revenge on an elephant that had killed 8 people in the last two years. Here is how.

The elephant was found pillaging a village for fruit. Citizens doused it in petrol and lit the animal completely on fire. It scrambled around looking for water, but the villagers blocked the escpape routes by beating drums and throwing fire crackers. The elephant fell to its knees, blinded by the fire and totally disoriented. Just as it seemed the creatures fate was sealed, a down pour extinguished enough flame for it to escape. What luck.

I'm totally supportive of people hunting down individual animals that have randomly killed several people. For the people who disagree, imagine an elephant killed someone in your family. That would piss you off right? But I'm just upset that they didn't shoot it or something and get it over with. Now it's angry!!!

The Times of India's article on the story says that the elephant was last seen on Wednesday severly burned.

"Forest officials said they have no information about the condition of the elephant. 'We have no information about this incident. I will definitely start an inquiry,' assistant conservator of forests Bimalendu Acharya said."-The Times of India
